He said that one of the important principles of the international law is to resolve disputes by peaceful means. He also said the unilateral arbitration filed by the Philippines is inappropriate.

"The South China Sea arbitration is not about legal issues, it is a political one. Many people take this issue as a purely legal one, but I think they totally misunderstand the problem. Justice is in the hearts of the people, and the public has its own judgement. Many countries support China on the South China Sea issue, either by open statement or by oral support," Zheng said.
