Chinese Premier Li Keqiang delivered a keynote speech, "Eurasian Partnership of Common Destiny to Open a New Chapter of Upgraded Cooperation" during the 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit on July 15 in Ulan Bator, Mongolia.

He elaborated on the expectations to promote Euro-Asia cooperation by introducing measures that Beijing is taking to support pragmatic cooperation, which contributes Chinese wisdom and strength to Asia-Europe cooperation.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of ASEM. Eurasia is the largest connected landmass in the world, while Eurasian countries account for a half aggregation of the global economy. Its stability and development stand paramount to global peace and prosperity.

Nevertheless, the ASEM is held on the backdrop of heated issues, including the global economy downturn, "Brexit" and numerous terrorist attacks.

Two Chinese peacekeepers were killed in South Sudan on July 10, 2016, while in Nice, the south of France, 84 were killed and 50 wounded in a terrorist attack on July 14. Eight months earlier, Paris had witnessed a terror attack, in which there were over 480 deaths and injuries.

The most notable thorny issues in Eurasia are terrorism and the refugee crisis. Asia and Europe have great opportunities before them, but must resolve tough challenges. The direction of ASEM in the coming decade would be addressed by the 53 ASEM partners and international organizations.

Contributing Chinese Wisdom

Beijing can drive the ASEM process. As a founding member, China, represented by Chinese Premier, attended every meeting to put forward 28 initiatives to boost pragmatic cooperation involving connectivity, science and technology innovation, energy conservation and environment protection, sustainable development, trade and investment facilitation, new-type urbanization, the disabled and etc.

"Chinese Wisdom" has transformed into a major impetus for Asia-Europe cooperation in the past two decades.

Development remains the cornerstone of peace and stability. Li had put forward suggestions: To innovate cooperation ideas, building on a common destiny to safeguard world peace and regional stability; to accumulate cooperation momentum that guides Asia-Europe cooperation in economy and trade; to lay a humanitarian foundation for Asia and Europe cooperation that enhances dialogues between different civilizations.

Contributing Chinese Strength

China is the second largest economy in the world and ranks first in Eurasia, which has been a driving force for pragmatic cooperation in the region. Accordingly, some ASEM member states hold high expectations for China.

The 11th summit, "20 Years of ASEM: Partnership for the Future through Connectivity" demonstrates how Beijing has been a strong advocate for Asia-Europe connectivity.

Li proposed to jointly promote connectivity and extended Chinese wishes to build Eurasian infrastructure networks with Eurasian countries at the prior ASEM meeting in Milan, Italy.

Beijing intends to lead development of Asia-Europe connectivity with wisdom and strength by striving to link up its projects with the "One Belt, One Road" to achieve pragmatic cooperation.

Li also touched on China's economic conditions, saying the nation continues to be confident about achieving major anticipated goals for this year and would maintain economic growth at the mid-high levels. China aims to boost the Eurasian economy and safeguard its peace and stability.

Li's remark gave a positive signal that China would still be a driving force for global economic growth. Beijing welcomes Eurasian countries to share the benefits of Chinese development and to take a ride of the "Chinese high-speed train."

China hopes to meet challenges with Eurasian countries, showing more confidence and making contributions to the peace, stability and prosperity of Eurasia and the rest of the world.
