ANKARA, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Turkey opened investigations into 15,200 education personnel for alleged links to Fethullah Gulen, whose followers are blamed for Friday's coup attempt, Turkish Ministry of National Education said Tuesday in a written statement on its website.

The statement said that the ministry "is continuing work in this direction," and "the public will be informed about the developments."

Turkey's Higher Education Board has also demanded the resignation of 1,557 deans at all private and state universities throughout the country, Hurriyet News reported.

The move comes amid a wide-scale crackdown on the country's top ranking soldiers, top level judiciary members and public personnel over alleged links to what the government calls the "parallel structure," which is accused of being behind the failed coup.
