Key developments of Turkey coup since Friday

Turkey's government has conducted a series of mass arrests in the aftermath of last week's failed coup to oust its president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Ankara has focused its crackdown on alleged supporters of Erdogan's political rival, Fethullah Gulen. Erdogan has publically accused Gulen of playing a key role in organizing the coup.

2:52, July 16 - Turkish PM describes the situation as "under control," declares no-fly zone 

4:00, July 16 - Erdogan arrives at Istanbul airport, declares there is no power stronger than the people

Later on July 16 - Rebel servicemen start to surrender; Turkish authorities announce the coup has failed

July 17 - Erdogan asks US to extradite muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen; Gulen denies any involvement with the coup

July 18 - Erdogan calls on his supporters to continue protesting until Friday

July 19 - Deputy PM announces the government may reinstate the death penalty

July 20 - Around 50,000 soldiers, police, judges, civil servants and teachers suspended or detained.
