After years of being underpaid in Dallas, Dirk Nowitzki is getting a big raise from the Mavericks. The big German has taken substantially below market value. The past three years the future hall-of-famer earned 8-million bucks per season.
He was going to get an increase to 20-million for each of the next two years. Well apparently, those numbers were wrong, as the Mavs are looking to give him an extra ten-million over the life of the contract.
Dirk Nowitzki is getting a big raise from the Mavericks.
According to ESPN, Nowitzki will only get the full 50-million dollars if the 38-year-old decides to stick around for the second year of his contract. The last year of the new deal is reportedly a player option. If Nowitzki chooses to retire before the 2017-18 season, that would be when the second-year kicks in, he will still get five million dollars. The German has spent his entire 18-year career in Big "D" and led the team to their only NBA title in 2011.
