Delegations from around the world are starting to arrive and get settled ahead of the Olympic Games that begin in little more than a week. Among the newcomers Wednesday were the South Korean and Mexican teams along with a part of the U.S. squad.

The American gymnastics team arrived at noon and went straight to the Olympic Village where more than 18,000 athletes and staff will stay during the Games. Among their squad was multiple world champion Simone Biles, who seemed full of energy despite the long flight. Also apparent was the heavy security presence, as armed soldiers patrolled the airport.

About 600 athletes from 120 countires have arrived in Rio in addition to 1,800 staff. Joining them were 159 athletes and officials from South Korea, who were greeted by supporters and musicians playing traditional music. South Korea hopes to win at least 10 gold medals to finish in the top 10 for the fourth consecutive Summer Games.

The green-clad Mexican delegation also arrived at the Olympic Village to get settled in Rio before the Games start in eight days.
