A powerful Taliban truck bomb has struck a guest house popular with foreigners in Kabul.  There were no immediate reports of casualties. The powerful explosion occurred around 1:30 local time this morning, and was felt across the city.

Local reports say a truck packed with explosives struck the entrance of Northgate guest house. It is close to the US-run Bagram air base--a heavily guarded compound with blast walls and watchtowers. The Taliban say the guest house belongs to "American invaders".

They say the bombing paved the way for their fighters to enter the facility with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms. The attack comes more than a week after 80 people were killed in twin bombings in the Afghan capital. That assault was claimed by the Islamic State group.
