Team China had its final say in making a change to their line-up for the women's Olympic weightlifting squad. Meng Suping, in the 75-kilogram plus category, will replace Hou Zhihui who was supposed to compete in the 48-kilo division.

According to reports, the replacement of Hou was kept to the last minute because the 19-year-old was expected to recover from a recent knee injury and actually travelled to Brazil, but then realized she would not be able to compete. The ban on the Russian weightlifting team has blown the women's heavyweight competitions wide open, and Meng is expected to help China claim a medal in the division. China submitted their replacement request to the International Weightlifting Federation and are waiting for the approval.
