The Chinese People's Liberation Army marks its 89th anniversary today. And as a tribute to the soldiers, an 80-year-old woman has made a series of paper-cuttings telling the history of the army.

Xu Zengnan is one of a handful of people highly skilled in paper-cutting, which is an intangible cultural heritage of  Huaian city. It took her a month to design and complete the three cuttings - two of which are wartime scenes, and the other in peacetime.

Xu says the most difficult part was getting the facial expressions of the soldiers just right. The People's Liberation Army is the armed forces of China, and it was founded on August 1st, 1927.
