Full coverage: 2016 Rio Olympics

The Olympic torch has reached Maua Square in Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian model and actress Adriana Lima lowered her torch and lit the small, but symbolic cauldron. The torch will later visit the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer, before touring the city and reaching the opening ceremony of the games.

"I am a native of Rio de Janeiro and I am really happy with everything that's happening. Brazil is going to shine for the Olympics and it will be a great success," said Rio De Janeiro resident Eduardo Magarinos.
