Day 1: China wins 2 silvers, 3 bronzes

Team China in Rio have finished their first day of competing. The country's medal total currently stands at 5 - two silver and three bronze. In the women's 10-meter air rifle event, former Olympic champion Du Li won silver, while her teammate, 2012 gold medalist Yi Siling, bagged the bronze.

In the men's event, 2008 gold medalist Pang Wei took home another bronze for China. In the women's epee individual, Sun Yiwen beat her French opponent and won a bronze. Another highlight of the first day's Games was the men's 400-meter freestyle final, where pre-race favorite, 2012 world champion Sun Yang, won silver, coming in split-seconds behind Australia's Mack Horton. 24-year-old Sun is also defending 1500m Olympic champion.
