12 gold medals have been won on the first day of events at the 2016 Olympics. China is currently at number 11 on the medals table, with two silvers and three bronzes. Australia leads the table, with two golds and one bronze. Hungary have two golds, the USA are in third place with one gold and four silvers.

South Korea and Japan round out the Top Five with one gold each. It's level pegging from fifth down to tenth with Argentina, Belgium, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam all winning one gold each. Vietnam enjoyed a special moment this year - winning the men's 10 meter air pistol title, bagging the country's first ever gold at the Games.
