Syrian insurgents who broke the siege of rebel-held eastern Aleppo came under intense air attack from pro-government forces on Sunday. Al-Qaeda-linked rebels had seized most of a large military complex southwest of Aleppo city. That was part of another major offensive that began on Friday to break a month-long siege.
Fighters from a coalition of jihadi groups announced the start of a new phase to capture the whole of Aleppo. They say jets believed to be Russian, intensified their bombing of rebel-held Aleppo countryside and also hit opposition held Idlib city in north western Syria.
