Now let's take a look at the medals table after two days of competition in Rio. China's three titles helped the country make a dramatic move from 11th place to second. The Chinese squad's haul is now three golds, along with two silvers and three bronze, giving them eight overall. That ranks behind the US, who also have three golds, plus five silvers and four bronze, for 12 in total. Another nation with three golds is Australia, they have six medals overall. Italy, South Korea and Hungary each have two golds to round out the top six.

From seventh to tenth, there is Russia, Sweden, Britain and Japan who have all claimed a gold medal each. 25-year-old Zhang Mengxue won China's first gold by claiming the women's 10m air pistol title. In the pool, China's Wu Minxia, Shi Tingmao won gold in the women's 3 meter synchronized springboard. And China's Long Qingquan took gold in the men's 56 kilogram weightlifting.
