China's consumer price index eased slightly in July from the previous month. The producer price index decline also narrowed.

The National Bureau of Statistics says China's CPI dropped to 1.8 percent in July from 1.9 percent in June. The PPI growth also eased to minus 1.7 percent from last month's minus 2.6 percent.

The data compiler says the torrential rains and floods that hit most parts of the country in July pushed up fresh food prices. Ferrous metal smelting and refining were the biggest contributors to PPI, while increasing orders in the textile industry also helped.
