Chinese swimmer Chen Xinyi has failed a doping test. The Chinese Swimming Association said the 18-year-old tested positive for the diuretic, hydro-chlorothiazide.
Chen finished fourth in the women’s 100-meter butterfly final on Sunday. Diuretics increase urination rates and can be used to hide performance-enhancing substances.
The CSA said Chen has asked the International Olympic Committee for a hearing, as well as a test of her B-sample. A CSA official said the organization is firmly against the use of performance-enhancing substances and respects the final decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports.
