China's Dong Dong takes silver medal of trampoline gymnastics

For men's trampoline final, two Chinese athletes had big expectations to bounce their way to the top of the podium. Dong Dong came in as the defending champion in the event, while his compatriot Gao Lei is the reigning world champion, but both would end up being shocked by Uladzislau Hancharou of Belarus.

This is Dong's third Olympics after claiming bronze in the 2008 Beijing Games, and then gold in London four years ago. But none of that would matter to Hancharou, who surprises the field by tallying 61.745 points to finish first, giving his country its first gold in Rio. Dong gets silver with 60.535 points, while Gao takes the bronze.

Australian wins nation’s first rowing gold since 2008 in Beijing

To rowing, and in the women's singles sculls, Australian Kimberley Brennan would beat out Gevvie Stone of the USA for the gold medal, while the bronze goes to China's Duan Jingli.

This is Australia's first rowing gold since Beijing in 2008, while it's China's best result ever in this event, after Zhang Xiuyun's placed fourth in 2008.

And Germany's Christian Reitz would win the gold medal in the men's 25-meter rapid fire pistol event. It's the 29-year-old's first gold in three Olympics, while his training partner, Jean Quiquampoix of France, takes the silver after a thrilling shoot-off with bronze medalist Li Yuehong of China.

22-year-old Puerto Rican upsets Angelique Kerber 6-4, 4-6, 6-1

In tennis, Monica Puig of Puerto Rico would upset World Number Two and Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 for the women's singles title.

In so doing, she wins the first gold medal ever for the Caribbean island. After dominating the third set, Puig would save six break points in the final game, before closing it out on her fourth match point.
