The men's 4X100 meter medley relay would be Michael Phelps last chance to add to his record medal haul as the most decoreated Olymnpian of all time looked to lead the American team to another victory by winning his 23rd gold medal.

And the USA finish first in three minutes, 27.95 seconds, setting a new Olympic record, beating Great Britain and Australia. China, finish in fourth place, but are disqualified due to foul play during the race.

Italian finishes in 14:34.57 as USA’s Jaeger takes silver

With defending champion Sun Yang failing to make it to the final, Italy's Gregorio Paltrinieri would win gold in the men's 1,500-meter freestyle, in a time of 14 minutes, 34.57 seconds. Connor Jaeger of the USA is second with another Italian, Gabrielle Detti winning bronze.

Dane clocks time of 24.07 ahead of USA’s Simone Manuel

In the women's 50-meter freestyle final, Denmark's Pernille Blume touches the wall first in 24.07 seconds to claim the first gold for her country. Simone Manuel of the USA comes second, only 0.02 seconds behind.

Australia take silver, Denmark bronze, China finish fourth

In the women's 4x100m medley relay, the United States beat Australia and Denmark to finish first in three minutes, 53.13 seconds. China finish in fourth place.
