Hangzhou to host G20 Summit on Sept. 4-5

Only 20 days to go until top leaders of the world's biggest econonomies gather at this year's G20 summit in Hangzhou, capital of China's eastern Zhejiang Province. The two-day talks will take place on September fourth and fifth. 

Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong says President Xi Jinping will host the summit and preside over the welcoming ceremony, the opening ceremony, meetings of five phases, 11 other events and the closing ceremony. Xi will also brief the media on the outcomes of the summit. Li says before the summit, President Xi is due to address the opening ceremony of the B20 Summit. He will also meet with leaders from the BRICS. On the sidelines, President Xi will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts and leaders of international organizations to discuss ties, and major international and regional issues. When asked whether issues such as THAAD and the South China Sea will be on the agenda, the vice foreign minister said they will stick to the economy.

"When holding international events different countries, different organisations, will always want to push their own agenda and push the issues they care about, for example things like the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands issue and so on. But for this summit, this time the subject focused on for the Hangzhou G20 summit, is economic growth," Chinese vice foreign minister Li Baodong said.
