Brazilian police have arrested a member of the International Olympic Committee's executive board as part of an investigation into ticket touting at the Rio Olympics.

Police discovered evidence linking Patrick Hickey, who heads the European Olympic Committee, to an international scheme to illegally pass Olympic tickets on to touts. The tickets are then re-sold to fans well above their original price.

Brazilian media reported that Hickey was detained at a hotel and was then taken to hospital following his arrest. Hickey was a member of the IOC's Coordination Commission for the 2016 Games.
