Heavy rain has hit China's southern province of Hainan, where thousands of people have been evacuated. On Wednesday, rainfall poured down on many areas of the island and exceeded a total volume of 300 millimetres within 14 hours, resulting in serious water build up. Three dams in the province have already started the process of flood discharging.
More than 24,000 people have been evacuated and resettled to safer areas, with no reported casualties. High-speed railway services have been cancelled and flights have also experienced delays. Evacuation goes on as rainfall continues.
