Not your Hollywood or Chinese blockbusters, but short films about about Chinese culture. They were produced by 30 Chinese and German secondary-school students, and have helped some of them break their own stereotypes about China. It's all part of the China-Germany Youth Exchange Year, an initiative which was announced by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and German Chancellor Angela Merkel last year. The short films premiered at the Beijing Royal School over the weekend, take a look.

The Confucius Institute Headquarters -- committed to providing Chinese language and culture teaching resources worldwide -- invited 15 secondary-school students from Germany to Beijing earlier this month. They worked with 15 Chinese counterparts in groups to create short films about Chinese culture. The students will go to Germany next year.

"We found many of our previous impressions about China were not right. For example, we thought Chinese people eat rice every day, but actually there are many kinds of food here in China," said German student Charlotte Kuhlwein.

"We took our German guests around, for a glimpse of the city of Beijing, and we also got to hear about Beijing. Their opinions about the city give us another perspective on it," said Chinese student Xing Shijie.

More than 30 exchange activities -- in areas such as education, culture, technology and sports -- are planned for the year.

The idea of promoting youth exchanges was first proposed by President Xi Jinping when he visited Germany two years ago, and 2016 was chosen as the year of youth exchange when Chancellor Angela Merkel visited China in October last year.
