The conclusion of the Summer Olympics also brings it's own logistical problems as the hundreds of thousands of foreign and domestic tourists that descended on Rio during the Games are now making their way home, making for long lines at the host city's airports.

It's a full house at Rio's Santos Dumont domestic airport where passengers were advised to show up six hours early for flights instead of the usual two.

The Brazilian Tourist Board estimated that about 650-thousand visitors swelled the city during the Games. But it's not just spectators packing the check-in queues, as thousands of athletes and officials are also heading home. But despite the long wait, people were still enjoying the aftermath of a successful celebration of sport.

"I congratulate the city of Rio de Janeiro. The Olympics here fulfilled our expectations, like the hospitality houses, and all the events that I had the opportunity to see," one tourist said.

"It was very, very enjoyable. I am still in the same mood and full of energy because for me it is not over yet as we still have the Paralympics coming up and I am very excited for that."

"I came here with a lot of time to spare to avoid last-minute problems but was surprised because I found the airport working normally, with a lot of the volunteers still at work," said Marcia Abersani, Rhythmic Gymnastics Referee.
