In UEFA Champions League, Italian club Roma were at home to Porto for the second leg of their playoff tie. After a 1-1 draw in Portugal, Roma were the favourites coming in, but would fall apart after an early goal with mistakes being compounded by two straight red cards.

Porto stuns Roma 3-0

The visitors would start strong and in the eighth minute, Felipe gets on the end of this free kick, nodding it home from close to make it 1-0 Porto.

And things get much worse for the hosts in the 39th minute when midfielder Daniel De Rossi is sent off for a high tackle on Maxi Pereira. Clearly got the studs up there.

Pereira is replaced by Palmieri who lasts only 11 minutes before being dismissed for a shocking lunge.

The visitors continue to press and double the lead in the 73th minute as Miguel Layun rounds the keeper and finds the empty net.

And then just two minutes, Jesus Corona turns his marker inside out before blasting it into the roof of the net.

3-0 is how it ends as Porto qualify for the group stage. Roma become the third successive Serie A team, and the sixth in the last eight seasons, to lose in the playoff round, leaving Italy with only two representatives - Juventus and Napoli - in Thursday's group-stage draw.

Also qualifying are Monaco who beat Villarreal 1-0 to seal a 3-1 aggregate win. Former European champions Celtic squeezed past Hapoel Beer Sheva 5-4 on aggregate. Ten-man Warsaw drew 1-1 at home with Irish part-timers Dundalk, but progressed 3-1 on aggregate to become the first Polish side to reach the group stage of Europe's premier club competition for 20 years. And Ludogorets held Viktoria Plzen 2-2 away to secure a 4-2 aggregate win.
