After the UEFA Champions draw, there was still more business to attend to, as UEFA would hand out its player of the year award.

And the Portuguese would grab the nod, capping off an incredible year. Ronaldo struck the winning spot-kick as Real claimed a record 11th European Cup title, beating city rivals Atletico on penalties in May, before leading his country to Euro 2016 glory, beating Griezman's France in the final.

Ronaldo scored three goals en route to the final of the tournament to equal France's Michel Platini's record of nine goals in the European Championship finals.

The Portuguese dressed as if he was going to win, Bale, the Welshman, was sporting a man bun. Is that still a thing? The Frenchman wearing loafers and no socks, as if he just found out he was up for the award. Ronaldo gracious in winning, praising the other two finalists.

"I will be not fair if I'm not going to mention these two amazing players. They deserve it too because they play amazing, they did a fantastic year," he said.

"(Antoine) Griezmann - sorry you lost the final, (European Championship), Gareth (Bale), semi-finals, sorry for Portugal but I think you deserve it too because you're an amazing player and you did an unbelievable season."
