US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, are in talks Friday in Geneva. They aim to hammer out final details of an agreement on fighting Islamic State jihadists in Syria.

The hope is that a deal will lead to a cessation of hostilities across Syria and relaunch talks on a political transition in the country. The United Nations has pushed for a weekly 48-hour pause in fighting in Aleppo and Russia has agreed to the plan. The UN says it is still waiting for guarantees from other parties on the ground.
