Canada's former cabinet minister Gar Knutson has sat down with CCTV and talked about his expectations for the upcoming G20 Summit in Hangzhou.
Knutson is familiar with Chinese affairs and has been dedicated to developing Sino-Canadian relations over the last few years. He expressed confidence in development of bilateral trade. He said the summit is "necessary and important" for tackling global issues.
"The global economy is sluggish, what that means is that there are many people falling behind, it's not keeping pace. The economic growth is not keeping pace with the growth of world population. So you have many people that are becoming poor, they are losing hope for the future, hope for their children and you compound that with issues such as climate change. All of these issues are linked and they need to be addressed in a comprehensive global way that is what G20 is about," he said.
