Tu ethnic group musical debuts in Beijing

During the 5th Minorities Art Festival, a colorful performance was staged by the Tu ethnic group. It is a musical that reveals their fascinating culture which has just premiered in Beijing.

The performing troupe is from the Huzhu Tu Autonomous County of Qinghai Province. They have carefully crafted the musical entitled, "Rainbow's Children" to show exhibit the unique culture of their ethnic group. It is the only county-level troupe performing at this year's Minorities Art festival of China.

According to organizers, "Rainbow's Children" took the cast and crew more than 3 months to prepare for. The songs feature traditional singing of the Tu ethnic group, and the dances are elaborately choreographed.

The stage design also integrates a large amount ethnic Tu elements, which, under the bright lighting, captures the essence of their folk culture.

"We live above the clouds as our village is located on a high altitude. It's as if we are able to reach out and touch the colorful rainbow," said Yan Guoliang, director.

"And our traditional dress also has the colors of the rainbow, so our group is hailed as the hometown of rainbows. In this show, our culture, our traditional clothes, our everyday life is demonstrated on the stage. "

"What I'm wearing is the traditional clothing of the Tu ethnic group, the colorful dress. The hat symbolizes the sun, which we respect very much in our culture. And this is traditional Tu embroidery. It is on the national intangible cultural heritage list," said Wen Ling, performer.

As many as thirty five representatives from across the country will participate in this year's festival, and it will run until September 14.
