JIANGNAN SIZHU is a style of traditional instrumental music from Eastern China. However, it's very popular in Hangzhou, and tourists coming to the city have found it's an ideal way to immerse themselves in the local culture.

Getting ready for another routine performance. These traditional Chinese music players are very young. But they are amongst the best in Zhejiang Province. That is why four of them have been chosen to perform for the G20 guests.

I was a bit surprised and nervous when I was chosen to perform for the world leaders. But I also feel honored. I will do my best to carry forward our traditional music.

I am very honored to be chosen. All Hangzhou people, including me, are hosting the summit, so I’m happy to be able to make my own contribution.

What was on my mind when I was selected was that I am going to work hard to ensure a successful performance.

The players are going to perform a special style of traditional music, called JIANGNAN SIZHU.

It literally means silk and bamboo, but it refers to the music played by the string and wind instruments in the area south of the Yangtze River delta.

You're likely to hear musical instruments such as bamboo flutes, two-stringed vertical fiddles, or Erhu, lutes, and clappers.

Such is its historical influence in the region, JIANGNAN SIZHU has been named an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.

"We have been practicing for more than two months. We have made great efforts in music selection, costume, and stage settings. We are excited and more than ready to represent Hangzhou, to showcase our local culture to all the guests from around the world," Huanglong JIANGNAN SIZHU Team captain Zhong Suhua said.

Thanks to the G20 summit, this ancient and local culture will be presented to the world on a much larger stage. Through such an important diplomatic event, these ordinary people have got the chance to host the world leaders and visitors in their own way.
