During the first half of 2016, per-capita GDP growth in the United States was just 1.2 percent. The European Union experienced 1.5 percent growth for the same period. And in Japan, GDP growth failed to reach 0.5 percent.

The United States' and EU's global share of the world economy is shrinking, but it still accounts for more than 40 percent. In Asia, Chinese economic growth continues to fare relatively well -- it hummed along at 6.7 percent.

India's economy is also doing well. It grew by 7 percent. G20 Summit leaders will be looking to Asia at the upcoming summit in Hangzhou for ideas on how to stimulate economic growth.
