China-Canada trade reached C$40 bln in first half of 2016

Let's take a closer look now at the statistics behind bilateral trade between China and Canada. China is Canada's second-largest trading partner. Last year, total trade between the two countries reached around 97 billion Candaian dollars - up 20 per cent from 2010.

In the first half of this year, the goods trade between China and Canada was worth nearly 40 billion Canadian dollars.From that figure, Canada imported goods from China worth nearly 30 billion Canadian dollars, a modest drop of 1 point 2 percent compared to the same period last year. At the same time, Canada exported 9 point 8 billion Canadian dollars worth of goods to China, representing a year-on-year growth of 1 per cent.

Canada's prime minister, Justin Trudeau, said that there is still great potential in Canada's export sector and he will aim for a closer and more balanced relationship between the two countries.
