China has voiced hopes that the peace talks in Myanmar will increase the chances for a nationwide ceasefire between the government and ethnic minority forces there. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said China continues to play a constructive role in mediation, encouraging the peaceful resolution of differences through dialogue.

"The peace talks are very important for Myanmar in promoting the peace process, improving mutual trust, and reaching national reconciliation. We hope relevant parties will solve differences via peaceful means, through political talks, to secure a nationwide ceasefire and ensure long-lasting peace and stability," Hua said.
