Singapore has confirmed 38 new locally transmitted Zika cases. Friday's update brings the total number Zika cases in Singapore to 189.

The health ministry says some of the new cases have been detected in areas where infections have not previously been reported. The ministry did not specify the locations, but the virus has been spreading each day beyond an initial cluster.

Singapore is the only Asian country which has confirmed an active transmission of Zika. The cases include two pregnant women.
