Zeng Cheng's injury is expected to sideline him for the season. This is not the first time the Guangzhou Evergrande goalkeeper has had to come back from such a setback as he's also suffered three other serious injuries.

In the 2013 East Asian Cup, Zeng had his face trampled by South Korean Seo Dong-Hyun, but Zeng remained on the pitch with his eye bleeding and neck injured as China battled to a goalless draw.

In the 2015 AFC champions league group stage, Guangzhou Evergrande beat the Western Sydney Wanderers 3-2 in a match where Zeng collided with teammate Kim Young Gwon after a free-kick. It resulted in Zeng's a broken cheekbone and a month and half recovery.

Then in the final of the same champions league  campaign, Evergrande hosted Al Ahli and Zeng twisted his right ankle after being stepped on by his teammate Huang Bowen and he was forced to come off. But Guangzhou still won their second Asian club title while it took Zeng until Feburary this year to recover.

And his most recent injury was sustained on Tuesday in China's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Iran.
