The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration says airline passengers should not turn on or charge Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones during flights or stow them in checked baggage.

The advice is due to concerns over the phone's fire-prone batteries. The South Korean manufacturer suspended sales of the phone last week and recalled two and a half million units equipped with batteries that have been known to catch fire.

On Friday, Singapore Airlines became the latest carrier to ban use of the phones during flights, following three Australian airlines.
