Full coverage: Belt and Road Initiative

More than 40 trade organizations from countries along the silk road region jointly announced a document called the Xi'an Manifesto during a recent meeting of business leaders to discuss Silk Road development.

The Xi'an Manifesto said a new form of global governance could be a merger between governments, society and businesses. That's because realizing a strategy as large as the belt and road initiatives requires deep collaboration between the public, private and non-profit sectors. Trade groups will discuss ways to cooperate on projects, products, technologies and financing.

Chinese businesses last year invested about 14.8 billion US dollars in countries along the belt and road region, up by about 20 percent from 2014. Many investment funds that focus on bilateral or multilateral industrial cooperation have been established in China, and currently hold over 100 billion US dollars.
