Zhengzhou-Xuzhou high-speed railway opens

Today marks the opening of China's newest high-speed railway - the Zhengzhou-Xuzhou line. China's high-speed rail track now reaches over 20,000 kilometers, remaining to be the longest in the world.

The total length of the newly opened railway is over 360 kilometers, enabling passengers to travel between Henan province in central China and Jiangsu province in east China within a mere 80 minutes. During trial runs, the speed of the train reached a record high of 420 kilometers per hour.

The high-speed railway travels across three provinces including Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu. It's also connected to two other major high-speed railways - the Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Guangzhou railways.

Following the new opening, China plans to further increase the speed of its high-speed trains AND the number of trains travelling between eastern and western parts of the country.
