The UK government has confirmed that the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant can go ahead. It will follow a new agreement with French company EDF. The confirmation comes two months after a new government -- under Prime Minister Theresa May -- called for a review of the initial nuclear program.

British Secretary of State for Business, Greg Clark said that new measures would be taken to enhance security. The Hinkley Point C plant will be jointly built by China General Nuclear Power Corporation, which has a one-third stake. It said it welcomes the UK government's decision, adding that it will not be concerned by new ownership rules for future projects.
