It's the time of year when millions set off for a short holiday or to visit their families -- Mid-Autumn Festival.
China's railway system is currently seeing a festival travel rush. In Shanghai, about 400,000 passengers took train trips on the first day of the holiday season. The city is also expecting to be affected by typhoon Meranti. It has added over 70 extra services for its three main train stations.
Another busy terminal is in Shaanxi province in the country's northwest. The junction connects to more than 20 provincial capitals in the east, northeast and southeast. Capital city Xi'an saw a heavy passenger flow of 1.36 million people on Thursday, close to historical record numbers.
