At least 14 people have died, and 14 others are missing after Typhoon Meranti hit southeast China. The extraordinary rainstorms brought by the typhoon have greatly impacted Fujian, Zhejiang and Taiwan. The city of Xiamen in Fujian Province - where the typhoon made landfall on the Chinese mainland - is among the worst-hit regions. SI NAN shows you the damage Meranti caused there.

Fixing windows and reinforcing frames.

Builders are among the busiest groups of people since Typhoon Meranti hit Xiamen.

Meranti's maximum 15-grade wind force and extraordinary rainstorms left the city in chaos.

How strong is that wind force? Pushing away a Boeing 767, blowing down some 350 thousand trees and causing damage to all kinds of structures.

Xiamen University, regarded as the most beautiful university by many, turned into a world of water with no power.

Relief equipments are draining water away but the process may take days.

The university is no different from other places in the city.

The typhoon cut off tap water supplies and caused a mass blackout. Flooding was seen in some 200 places.

All those complications resulted in the suspension of all bus services, and all regular speed trains departing from Xiamen.

Those service are now gradually resuming after busy relief operations. Water supply and power had also mostly resumed as of Saturday morning.

But the peace may not last long, as another typhoon - Malakas - is likely to be a further blow to the region.
