The world’s largest tidal bore lasts for about a week every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The gravitational pull on the tide from the moon and the sun is strongest during this time.

When the tide hits the bottleneck at the river’s estuary, waves are pushed upstream. Waves up to two meters high were seen on Sunday, the biggest so far this year.

Local authorities are urging people to stay safe.
