Chinese police have brought 63 telecom fraud suspects back from Cambodia on Tuesday, in their continuing crackdown on such crimes.
The Chinese Ministry of Public Security said 50 of the suspects are from the Chinese mainland and the rest 13 from Taiwan. They are suspected of falsely presenting themselves as law enforcement officials to extort money from people in China.
The ministry said the exact number of fraud cases and the amount of money involved have yet to be determined. Since November last year, China has cooperated with police in Kenya, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia and destroyed 65 fraud dens.
