The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called on all sides to avoid a further escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula, just hours after two US bombers flew over South Korea.
"China has a clear position on this issue, which is realising the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, and it's committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region and insisting on settling all relevant issues through dialogue and negotiations. Thus, we call on all sides concerned to exercise restraint and avoid carrying out acts that might cause further escalation of the tensions," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said.
This is the second time that the US has conducted a flyover since the DPRK's nuclear test on September 9th. The US said it was an assurance that Washington is committed to preserving security on the peninsula and in the region. The DPRK has criticised the US for branding its latest nuclear test "provocative and reckless." Pyongyang said the US has manipulated the issue of human rights in an effort to overthrow the DPRK government, and has promised to fight back against international sanctions.
