A Chinese tourist has died in a road traffic accident in California. 11 people were also injured -- including six children -- when a bus, carrying a group of Chinese middle-school students, slammed into a tree.

It's not yet clear whether the fatality was a student or a chaperone. Two of the injured are in a serious condition. The group was returning from a trip to a national park.

Police say the driver was going too fast down a mountain road, and lost control on a curve.
