To South America and world leaders have arrived in Colombia to witness the signing of a historic peace deal between the government and the FARC rebel group.

Colombia's president, Juan Manuel Santos, and rebel leader Timochenko are expected to sign the peace deal on Monday, which will bring 50-years of war to an end.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Cuban President Raul Castro, and US Secretary of State John Kerry will witness the event.

Recent polls show the agreement will pass smoothly as it is set for ratification on October 2nd. Within 180 days, FARC rebels must hand over their weapons to the UN.

The peace agreement aims to turn the 20,000 strong rebel group into a political party. It will end the conflict which has hindered economic progress caused divisions in Colombia.
