The annual General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA is being held in Vienna. The week-long event which started on Monday gathered representatives from 168 nations. And among them is China, which has introduced the nation's nuclear development.

Nuclear experts from over 50 nations gathered at a side meeting over China's new reactor.

The ACP 100 is the world's first Small Modular Reactor, or SMR, to pass the IAEA safety review.

SMRs are much smaller compared to other modern power-generating base load plants. They have a capacity of less than 300 megawatts, with the others normally at a thousand megawatts or higher.

The ACP 100 is designed as a multi-purpose small pressurized water reactor.

"It can be used to provide heat and power supplies, sea water desalination, and has many other purposes," said Li Xiaoming, President Asst., China National Nuclear Corporation.

"Besides this, we also have a series of products. This is of 100 megawatts -- and we also have 10 and 25 megawatts ones. They can be installed on land, floating ships and even icebreakers."

Also at IAEA's annual session, the head of China's delegation revealed more on China's nuclear industry development

"There are 35 nuclear power generating units in operation in China. 20 others are under construction. China has accumulated rich experience in the design, construction and operation of nuclear power plants," said Wang Yiran, Dep. Director, China Atomic Energy Authority.

Wang told audiences that the China-developed Hualong One technology has won global recognition

"The technology of"Hualong One" has been applied for the first time both in China and globally," he said.

"Construction has started and is progressing smoothly, indicating the technology has won widespread approval for its safety and economic efficiency. The CAP1400 and ACP100 have passed the IAEA safety review and are fully qualified for application in project engineering."

Chinese nuclear officials stress China will push for the peaceful use of nuclear power, and contribute to the realization of sustainable development.
