For an update on Tuesday's gas explosion in a coal mine in Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. So far, the death toll stands at 18, with two people missing.
Preliminary investigations show that the explosion was caused by illegal mining operations by Linli Coal Mining Company. The local government told the media that the company personnel responsible are in policy custody.
The focus is now on finding the last two people trapped underground, although chances for survival are slim. Flooded passages, destroyed mine shafts, and excessive gas concentration are hampering rescue efforts.
The government has set up a working group to assist the miners' families and to deal with the aftermath.
