Full coverage: 67th Chinese National Day

As a decoration for China's National Day holiday, a giant flower basket has been placed at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing.

Making such a flower basket... you're going to need a truck because this basket is 17 meters tall.

"This flower basket is gonna be very huge. The biggest flower in it, is this peony, the national flower of China. It has three meters in diameter, weighing 300 kgs. And of course, it's artificial, like most of the others are in the basket," CCTV reporter Wu Guoxiu said.

Don't be surprised, it's not just you that think these flowers are real - even some locals do.

"I thought it was made of small pots of real flowers! It turned out to be constructed like this!" a Beijing resident said.

19 kinds of flowers, 300 pieces. It took the makers half a month to produce them before installation.

"We use water-proof cloth to make the flowers. Something like what we use for a raincoat. We'll also spray fire retardants," said Li Haibo, flower production manager.

A more industrial feature... the stems. Not wooden, but steel, making each piece of flower firm enough to handle strong winds.
Even 3D scanning technology has been involved for its precision-like accuracy.

"We used 3D technology to scan real flowers, and made the XYZ coordinates of each stem. Once the stems were made, we used GPS to locate each end to set their positions," Li Haibo said.

It took them four days to install the top of the basket. A steel pillar to support it and the base of it.

All to be assembled at the end, bringing the three parts into one completed structure.

The basket will be here in the Square until late October. It will certainly be a must-see in Beijing around every National Day Holiday.
