Formula E is coming to Hong Kong. From the 8th to the 9th of October, Hong Kong’s Central Harbour front area will witness first hand the world's top fully-electric auto racing competition.

Start your engines. We're almost ready to go.

Excitement is growing in Hong Kong as the city prepares to host its first ever Formula ePrix a solely-electric car race, making it a ground breaking innovation in sport and entertainment.

"The tickets are sold out. We’ve sold 7,000 grandstand and 9,000 e-villages tickets. We are working with the Hong Kong police and transport department to arrange how people are coming," said Alan Fang, CEO of Formula Electric Racing Hong Kong.

One demanding task is to turn the streets into race-level circuit. This requires a lot of road work and transportation arrangements, and will need extra planning to determine where AND how to accommodate spectators.

This is where the race cars will hit the streets for the Hong Kong ePrix. Modification work is still ongoing for the street circuit, with the final transformation expected just a day before race day. / The 2-kilometer track will take place in the Central Harbour front area. Drivers will race past some of Hong Kong’s most recognizable landmarks, including the Central Star Ferry Pier and the International Finance Center, with Victoria Harbour on one side and the city's iconic skyline on the other.

The 10-turn circuit runs clockwise with a long straight-back-straight featuring between turns one and two.
Two hairpin bends and a tight layout make this circuit both challenging AND exciting.

"Every street circuit has its own risks and has more risk than normal tracks. If you make a mistake, you're going straight into a wall, and normally, that means a damaged vehicle.”I think the Hong Kong formula E track will be very difficult. The high speed to low speed at the first corner should create a lot of overtaking. But at the same time because the track is tight, it won’t be easy," said Adderly Fong Chun-Yu, F1 Driver of Hong Kong Formula E Key Opinion Leader.

Another important feature that requires extensive preparation is the pit lane and garage area. While the electric cars won't need to stop for refuelling, a mandatory pit stop is required for a car change. Midway through the race, drivers will be required to take a pit stop to swap for a new, fully charged vehicle.

The inaugural Hong Kong ePrix will be part of the third season of the FIA Formula E Championship.

The race will see 10 teams of 2 drivers each battling it out for the trophy.
