Seongju protesters have vowed to keep fighting, though the government and mainstream media have attempted to downplay the protests.

"We have never stopped protesting. From July 31st until now, we have been protesting for 81 consecutive days and we will not stop. However, our media is distorting the facts. We will use our own ways to have our voices be heard, we will tell fellow citizens that we will not stop fighting until the THAAD system is out of South Korea," said Bae Yoonho, chief of Seongju Anti-Thaad Committee.

Bae responded to mainstream media reports that protests against THAAD's deployment were getting smaller. He also said that the local government has cut power supplies and prohibited protesters from gathering at the council square. Protesters say the local government has ignored their protests and has sided with the central government.
